Commandant says it is the right path to recapitalization.
The U.S. Coast Guard will receive a budgetary increase for 2022. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Karl Schultz said he is encouraged by the 2022 budget and that it will help to address pressing issues of readiness. The budgeted amount is $300 million higher than 2021 and the commandant is hopeful that additional amounts appropriated by Congress will stick.
“For a healthy organization to recapitalize you need 2% to 4% of critical infrastructure on an annual basis,” Admiral Schultz said on Tuesday. He stated that there’s a backlog of shore infrastructure needed. The admiral continued, “The 2022 budget gets after aviation parts, particularly rotary recapitalizations. I think we’re on a good glide slope.”
